Brad 18 August 2010

A modelling competition - the first of its kind in the UK - to find the next ‘mixed-race face of 2010’ is being organised by Manchester based social enterprise Mix-d: in collaboration with Boss model management, Harvey Nichols and Vidal Sassoon.

The fund raising event due to be held on the 30th October at the recently refurbished, Monastery in Manchester will include a catwalk competition where two lucky winners could each win a 12 month modelling contract with the prestigious Boss Model agency.

The UK wide search is now open for entries. 20 finalists will be chosen from around the country and will be given the chance to strut their stuff in a runway show on 30th October, with clothes provided by Harvey Nichols and hosted by actress and presenter Angela Griffin and actor Tachia Newell.

Money raised from the contest will be used to help fund the ‘Mix-d: Education Pack’ aimed at increasing understanding of current mixed-race issues.

Mix-d: is a social enterprise which explores contemporary mixed-race identity. A census reveals that more than 50% of mixed-race people are under 16 and they are projected to become Britain’s largest ethnic group by 20101. Mixed-race is still surrounded by uncertain terminology, historical prejudices despite being this country’s fastest emerging racial grouping.

Bradley Lincoln, founder of Mix-d comments “Over the last couple of years we have worked to remove the awkward silence around this subject and the event is an extension of the work we do, we’re excited to provide a new platform for mixed-race people to be present in the fashion industry.”

Lauren Mellor, Senior Model Booker for Boss Model Management says “We’re thrilled to partner with Mix-d: on this ground-breaking event and are looking forward to seeing the diverse talent that the show is sure attract.”
