Taking mixed-race issues to Europe with Metis De France
Mix-d: and Metis De France travelled to Brussels to discuss Europe’s fastest growing ethnic group.
Metis de France have long been campaigning for direct engagement with Europe and Mix-d is delighted to be included in their delegation.
We began our work six years ago by advising inner-city Manchester schools on developing policies and practices for understanding and accommodating mixed race cultures.
By the end of 2010 we had worked in local authorities all across the UK and delivered the UK’s only national mixed-race youth conference.
Collaborating with Metis de France, a mixed race group in Paris, has been a great learning experience.
We presented to the European Commissioners, a detailed over view of our work and manifesto highlighting the need for work in the areas of education, health, community engagement, fairness and representation.
We await feedback and hope to take our findings to other european office.
