Black History Month in Manchester 2010

Black history month is always a busy time for Mix-d:

Black history month is always a busy time for Mix-d:

Last year, we ran our first Mix-d: Professionals conference in Manchester and London. In 2008 we launched our first photography book -  Mix-d: Uk. And, in 2010 we went back to our roots.

This year it was a pleasure to return to Whalley Range High School which was the first secodary school to welcome the Mix-d: project.

Whalley Range was part of a scheme of work which looked at mixed-race identity from the students point of veiw. Also working on the city wide project with Mix-d: was St Peter’s, Trinity School High and Cedar Mount.

Over a number of weeks, each school was invited to explore key issues surrounding mixed-race identity and to produce their own wall displays, school booklets and Mix-d: student groups.

Each Mix-d: school group was supported by a key memeber of staff who ensured classrooms were booked, students were ready and the programme got completed. It is thanks to these individuals that all the worked was completed on time and to such a high standard.

I want to say a special thank to all the students who stayed dedicated, focussed and gave up their time to make history in their schools.
